Abstract:
Gender equality and justice in the perspective of the Qur'an, remains an interesting theme to discuss, because until now the struggle of the feminist movement is still unfinished, marked by there are still many cases of discrimination and violence against women. In writing this article, the author refers to the Qur'an and hadith as well as several other supporting references to equality and justice. The history of gender struggle, known as the feminist movement, in the west has begun since the 16th-17th centuries AD while in Islam it has begun since the 7th century AD with the sending of the Messenger of Allah with the book of the Quran. In general, the flow of the phenism movement is divided into two groups, namely groups that are concerned with changing the nature of women, and those that preserve women's nature. The group that changes women's nature consists of the schools of Existentialism Feminism, Liberal Feminism, Socialist / Marxist Feminism and Feminist Theology. The group that preserves women's nature consists of schools of Radical Feminism and Ecofeminism. In the Qur'an there is a clear view of the gender question that men and women have the same status that distinguishes between them is the quality of piety to Allah. This is also manifested in several other aspects, in family, social and political issues. In some of these aspects, the Qur'an gives equal treatment to both men and women.
